We are an organization that was founded by a family that has struggled over the loss of one of our children.  Together, we are trying to make a loving effort, to help other families, that are affected by the tragic loss of a child, and the difficulties associated with such an event.  Our mission is to help by providing a personalized, professionally hand-crafted casket or urn, for these dearly loved little ones.

In 2011, after several years of wanting a third child, David and Teresa Miskin were ecstatic about her pregnancy and were preparing for the birth of their first son.  After a terrible car accident, that amazingly, left Teresa with only minor injuries, she had another ultrasound that showed that there was something not quite right with this very loved and anticipated baby.  They were devastated, to say the least, after the diagnosis of a “lethal” birth defect was confirmed.

Through the process of developing pregnancy, many decisions needed to be made. They found a wonderful funeral director to consult on burial.  But the available casket options were nothing to be excited about.  It seemed not quite right to bury their baby, in what seemed like a plastic container, or resembled a Styrofoam cooler, and others were quite expensive. David had considered the idea of building their own, and with the support of others, moved forward with the idea. David worked on the external Woodwork, while Teresa and their children worked on fitting it with a soft, plush interior, that would be more appropriate to honor a life that was greatly loved, no matter how short that life would be.

This experience, which was initiated by a devastating need, sparked an idea, and it was considered that other families may feel the same, about the daunting task of choosing how to honor their child.  This idea went through several stages of possible ways to reach out and assist others through similar difficulties, and maybe lighten the burden associated with making the same end-of-life decisions.  And this is how Baby Joseph’s Last Lullaby Foundation was born.  It is our Baby Joseph and his life that we honor with this work and the mission of helping others to gracefully say goodbye to their dearly loved child.
